Your Social Media Dose (October 2023)

Check out the new Social Media updates from the past two weeks.

Your #Socialmediadose is here:

  • Instagram Adds Looping Video Clips in Notes – Back in December 2022, Instagram launched a new feature called Notes. The feature allows Instagram users to share written text to which people can reply as messages. In June, Meta said that over 100 million teen accounts had shared a Note in the preceding 90 days. So now Instagram is testing a new option, which is the capability of adding a video in Notes. Adam Mosseri mentioned that soon, people will be able to update their default profile photo with a short, looping video. Even though this new feature will be available, people can still share a text near a video.
  • Threads Reached More Than 100M Users After 3 Months – The new app launched in July had a huge success by being the most downloaded app. According to an article on The Verge, Threads app has already surpassed 100 million users, meaning it reached the milestone dramatically faster than even ChatGPT. Not really a surprise, knowing that Threads had a great start by being downloaded by more than 1M people in the first hours.
  • Instagram Tests the capability to filter on content from ‘Meta Verified’ Accounts – After implementing the option to filter the content by followers or favorite account, Instagram adds another field. It is about the content from Meta Verified users only, which may include the users who already subscribed to Meta Verified. Once this feature will be available, you can access it by clicking on the upper left side of the app.
  • WhatsApp adds account switching In-App – WhatsApp comes with a new feature that allows users to have multiple accounts logged in parallel and the option to switch between them. Facebook and Instagram have already implemented this feature. The difference is that, as per WhatsApp : To set up a second account, you will need a second phone number and SIM card, or a phone that accepts multi-SIM or eSIM. Simply open your WhatsApp settings, click on the arrow next to your name, and click “Add account”. You can control your privacy and notification settings on each account.
  • TikTok is Extending the Current Video Limit to 15 Minutes – Some of TikTok’s users are now allowed to create and upload videos for up to 15 minutes on the platform. TikTok started with a limit of 15 seconds per clip, and now they’ve extended the time limit by reaching 15 minutes as of today.
  • Threads adds Polls and GIFs as it Continues to Expand its Engagement Options – The App that achieved 100M users in three months is now extending its feature. Threads users can now use Polls and GIFs to drive more engagement. As per Social Media Today, Poll voters will also be sent a notification at the conclusion of the poll, so that they can check back on the final results.
  • X Launches Audio Calling Option Live Now for Some Users – A new feature for X allows the users to make video or audio calls. The users can enable this feature from the app’s settings. As per The Verge, Musk recently said the feature would be available on iOS, Android, Mac, and PC, with “no phone number needed.”
